What is Orbital Surgery?

The orbit consists of bones housing and protecting the eyeball and all surrounding muscles and nerves. A variety of problems can occur to affect this area. Trauma or direct injury to the orbit can result in a fracture. Nerve and muscle impingement can result in blurred vision and ineffective ocular movement. These symptoms can require emergent surgery by a trained ophthalmologic specialist as well as a plastic surgeon for fracture reduction and soft tissue management.
