What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty specifically aims to enhance symmetry and proportions of the nose. A majority of these procedures are for cosmetic purposes; however traumatic incidents may lead to structural misalignment necessitating rhinoplasty. Areas of focus during a rhinoplasty include nose size, bridge width, nostril position, humps or contour deformities, crooked nose, and nasal asymmetry.

The Procedure

The procedure is performed in either a closed fashion where the incision are hidden inside the nose, or open where a minimal incision on the fleshy part between the nostrils is made. The skin is gently raised and cartilage can be removed or added in order to reshape each area of the nose. Occasionally, osteotomies will need to be made in the upper nasal bones. These small breaks allow for further reshaping of the nose structure, which affects the surface appearance of the nose.
