What is Blepharoplasty (Lower Eyelid Surgery)?

A blepharoplasty or eyelid lift on the lower portion of the eyes aims to tighten any areas of loose or sagging skin that can create unwanted bags under the eyes. In some cases, the skin may sag enough to consistently reveal the white portion of the eye below the iris. Due to genetics, environmental exposure, and natural aging, many patients find this area to be problematic and prone to fine wrinkles.

The Procedure

Similar to an upper eyelid lift, an incision is made this time underneath the eyelid in the natural creases of the facial skin. Techniques often include skin removal, fat removal, as well as muscle tightening in some cases. After the incision is closed and healed, the scar should be well hidden and unnoticeable without close inspection. Laser skin resurfacing can be added onto this procedure in certain instances to maximize rejuvenation and skin contouring.
