What is Abdominoplasty?
Abdominoplasty, also known as tummy tuck surgery, effectively removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen. Many times this procedure will strengthen the abdominal wall, creating a firmer and more functional belly. A flat and well-toned abdomen is the goal, but can be difficult for some to achieve the desired result. Excessive sagging or protruding can be caused by the natural aging process, pregnancy, weight loss, and previous surgeries.
The best candidates for abdominoplasty are reasonably close to normal weight, but for some reason are unable to maintain a flat abdomen. In many cases, the results of this surgery are long lasting. Incisions are made between the two hip bones, excess skin is removed, and abdominal musculature is tightened. If your expectations are realistic and you are prepared for recovery time, abdominoplasty may be the answer.
