What is breast augmentation?
Clinically referred to as mammoplasty, breast augmentation surgery can help restore breast volume and increase chest size following pregnancy or weight loss. Some women might feel there is a natural imbalance in breast size, requesting an augmentation to promote symmetry or an increase in volume. This surgery generally involves the use of implants, but can be paired with fat grafting to help achieve a natural look. Fat grafting, is the transfer of fat cells from one area of the body to another in order to fill volume defects and promote smooth contouring.
The Procedure
Implant size will be decided a few weeks prior to surgery. Surgical incision can be made in a few inconspicuous areas including around the nipple, under the breast, or within the armpit. Most augmentations take 90 minutes and patients have the option to go home the day of surgery. Breast implants require regular evaluation and examination in order to confirm their condition. Similarly, these implants are not guaranteed to last forever and may require replacement in 10-15 years.
